AB&I Holds Earn & Learn Workshop

Earn and Learn provides education services to effectively scale work-based learning experiences for all learners. They believe that every learner deserves the opportunity to explore the world of work and achieve their fullest potential. Earn and Learn coaches a regional network of schools, employers and community partners to unleash career pathways for learners in K-12 and community colleges. Zeydi Gutierrez has participated in their workshops in the past. This time, they wanted to hold the Workshop on Internship at AB&I using Zeydi and Emiliano Sanchez, Oakland Unified Linked Learning Office, as an example of a successful partnership. They are what Earn and Learn calls “connectors” working to connect learners and employers for purposes of coordinating work-based learning.

The group was comprised of educators from different school districts in the area learning about the importance of internships. They were asked to identify challenges they might have moving forward. The educators took a tour of the foundry, had lunch and participated in a 2-1/2 hour Earn & Learn Workshop where they learned ways to follow-up on and sustain relationships with employers who they met during their course and explore ideas for institutionalizing communication and engagement with employers, before during and after their internship.
